Today, investors are faced with hundreds (if not thousands) of investment choices. This large number of choices can be very confusing. An asset allocation plan can help the client and Registered Representative sort through the many alternatives in a logical and meaningful way. The result is a rational, strategic plan for investing.
Asset allocation planning focuses on the long-term financial objectives of the individual. This is generally defined as goals that are committed to for the next five or more years. Long-term investing means accepting an educated amount of investment risk in the anticipation of being rewarded with higher investment returns.
Generally considered separate from the longer-term asset allocation plan, shorter-term goals (less than five years) are also important to consider. These goals would include major purchases (car, home, appliances) and emergency cash funds (generally covering six months' living expenses).
Asset Allocation explains a large percentage of a portfolio's performance for most investors.
Key Benefits:
- Developing the amounts to be invested in different assets classes
- Determining the amounts to be invested in different individual securities
- Setting the timing of when the amounts are to be invested
